Bob Maicks of Star Sound Technologies showed a new
speaker which intrigued us. It is the Harmonic
Precision “Caravelle”. The philosophy employed is to
drain off the transient and spurious sounds emanated
by the speaker which will leave you with just the
music. The construction of the Caravelle box is
poured pulverized granite a new material. The front
baffle is 2” thick while the remaining walls are ¾”
thick. The rear baffle additionally has micro bearing
steel chips in the mix which help dissipate the first
back wave from the driver.
The stainless steel tubes are used for leveling the
speaker as well as connecting the speaker to it’s
stand. The stand in essence becomes an integral part
of the speaker enclosure. There is a knob in the back
which connects to a tension bolt. When this is turned
it will tighten the driver against the baffle. The
purpose of the varying tension is to adjust to a given
room and instill what the Brits refer to as pace and
rhythm.
The filigree feet employ the science of fractals.
They in effect dissipate resonances that are out of
phase with the signal being sent to the driver.
Additional tricks of the trade are used such as a
fiirst order series crossover to allow you to hear
more of your amplifier.
The electronics driving these speakers are Harmonic
Precision HPN 110 monoblocks on Sistrum amp stands.
The Sistrum rack holds an Elgar power supply, Elgar
transport, Elgar dac, And Elgar clock. In the corner
is a power conditioner.
